Belly Casting FAQ's:

Why would I have a plaster cast of my pregnant belly done?
Casting is a wonderful way of preserving the memory of your beautiful pregnant body. Some people choose to have it done for the same reason as having maternity photos taken. Whether you want to capture the evolution of your belly or just a special moment in time, it is a one-of-a-kind piece of art that you will appreciate more and more with time.

Fee: $100 -includes all materials and processing for a ready-to-decorate plain plaster belly cast.

Is this service provided at my home or at your office?

At your Home: There is an additional time-based travel fee of $25-50, based on distance. If you are someone who would prefer to shower immediately afterwards, this option may be best for you. The cast is left at your home to fully dry.

My Toledo Office: This service is available at no extra charge, but please note that there is no on-site shower available. Warm wash cloths will be available for clean up. You will need to return in 48 hours to pick up your dry cast.

Will you decorate my belly cast?

Once dry, your cast is ready to decorate. I can offer creative ideas for you to do it yourself, or you can request a special artistic design for an extra fee. Pricing varies based on the request. Please inquire.

When is the best time in my pregnancy to make a belly cast?

Ideally, 36 to 37 Weeks, when you are closer to full term, and your belly is nice and full.

How long does it take?
The process takes about an hour and a half, including preparation, drying, and clean-up.

How messy is it? It is quite messy! I will minimize mess by providing plastic sheeting for the floor, chair, or tub so any mess is simply rolled up and thrown away at the end. You will want to wash up or have a shower afterwards to remove the protective coating placed on your skin (used to ensure the cast doesn't stick to you) and any plaster that drips onto your skin.

Do I have to be naked?
No. However, wet plaster binds firmly to skin and fine hair. Most people will want to cover their nipples and pubic hair with a thick layer of Vaseline, non-stick gauze pads or cotton rounds, adhesive nipple covers, paper tape, or by wearing underwear or a thin bathing suit bottom. Petroleum jelly protects your skin and fine body hair to ensure a painless removal of the dried cast from your body. Additionally, wrapping clothing in Saran Wrap will protect the plaster from sticking to any garments you might choose to wear.

Can I use something other than Vaseline?
Vaseline does not drip and can be applied in a thick layer so there is less chance of your body hair sticking to the plaster bandage. Vaseline is a household name, and most people have used it before, so there is less chance of skin sensitivity. If you have personal reasons for not using petroleum products, let me know, and I will gladly bring a high-quality massage cream (with a thick consistency) as an alternative.
